This article will be useful for both students that can are domiciled or from the UK and international students.

  1. Leeds Trinity University

Leading the pack is Leeds Trinity University; it also made our list of cheapest unis for undergraduate degrees. This university is a small university with a big reputation as it is one of the top UK universities for teaching excellence and is known for its Journalism courses. They are renowned for producing highly employable graduates, thanks to the professional work placements included with every undergraduate degree. According to the Graduate Outcomes, Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) report published this year (2022), 97% of their graduates are employed or in further study 15 months after graduating. 

This is the most affordable for home students (UK residents) and one of the most affordable for international postgraduates. Current costs for home students start from as low as £1,400 for the PG Cert Inclusive Leadership postgraduate course. The MA in Creative Writing costs just £4,400. The lowest fees for international students are £11,500 – this is even cheaper than some universities’ undergraduate degrees.

Based in Scotland, The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is one of the most affordable unis that both home and international students can have access to for postgraduate study. Offering innovative teaching methods, stunning locations and a unique landscape, UHI helps its postgraduates achieve their ambitions. 

For students from Scotland, the price can be as low as £5,000, students from the rest of the UK can get a master’s degree at the price of £6,021. International students can get a master’s on campus at £13,428. 

Made up of 13 colleges and research centres, and over 70 local learning centres, it offers many online and part-time course options so you can fit your studies around other commitments.

This will range from £5,200 – £6,680 for most postgraduate degrees, except for the International MBA which will cost £10,500.

This university also made our list of the cheapest universities for undergraduate degrees. The University of Bolton ranks in the UK’s top 5 for teaching quality. The uni continually invests in its students learning experience by constantly providing world-class facilities. In recent years, the uni has invested over £50 million in its facilities. Postgraduate students at the Uni benefit from small class sizes and the dedicated support of a personal tutor.

For £5,400 you could study an MSc in International Management to build cross-cultural management skills, or LLM Law – both useful to HR professionals looking to expand their roles. Most of their fees for international students start at £12,950 (excluding courses like MBA £14,450, MSc Physician Associate Studies and some others.

  1. Queen Margaret University

Queen Margaret University in Scotland offers a wide range of flexible postgraduate study options to enhance your career, knowledge and skills, and provide a stimulating study environment in which you can thrive. From, £6,000, the uni offers inexpensive postgraduate courses for students from Scotland and the rest of the UK working across the arts, health and political spectrums. Budding entrepreneurs can also make use of practical business support and mentoring via the uni’s Business Innovation Zone. The cheapest fees for international students start from £15,000 and get as high as £17,900.

  1. Edge Hill University

Edge Hill University is a campus university in Lancashire (near Liverpool) that offers a range of undergrad, postgraduate & research courses. Its awards and recognitions are quite impressive. It was awarded the Modern University of the Year by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022. It was rated the top university of the Year in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2022. It was also rated top two universities in terms of facilities in the whole of the UK.

Each year more than 2,700 international students from more than 130 countries choose to study with DMU. Full-time international fees start at £14,750 (Band 1/Classroom) and £15,250 (Band 2/Laboratory).

Teesside University is located in central Middleborough in the North East of England and is a member of the University Alliance – a group of institutions rich in professional and technical education, training, innovation and other related factors. It was awarded full university status in 1992 and presently has over 20,000 students on its books. At Teesside University in Middlesbrough, you’ll benefit from a recently developed £275m city-centre campus. 

It will cost £6,100 for a standard tier full-time taught postgraduate degree (MA/MSc) for part-time students.

  1. Wrexham Glyndŵr University

WGU ranked 2nd in the UK for teaching quality in The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022 and was ranked higher than any other university in Wales and England by The Complete University Guide for student satisfaction. 

A full-time MA, MSc, and MRes costs around £5,940 at WGU.

  1. University of Derby

Derby is one of the most affordable cities in the UK for international students. If you are an international student who wants to keep living costs low and gain a postgraduate degree that is respected all over the world, there are few better places than the University of Derby. The University of Derby has an award-winning commitment to social mobility and a focus on applied learning. 

Postgraduate courses cost £14,700, with an MBA costing £15,450.

Studying for a postgraduate degree is a good investment in your future, but you need to carefully consider how you’re going to pay for your course and your living costs.
